Privacy Policy

Your location data is yours. Here's exactly what GPS Boss collects, why we need it, who we work with and how you stay in control.

Last updated: August 18, 2026

Overview

GPS Boss ("GPS Boss", "we", "us") builds GPS tracking hardware and the mobile and web apps that go with it. Because our products handle location data, privacy isn't a formality for us — it's part of the product. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the control you have over it.

This policy covers thegpsboss.com, our checkout, our mobile and web tracking apps, and customer support channels.

Information we collect

  • Account details: name, email address, phone number and password hash.
  • Order and billing details: shipping address, items ordered and order history. Card numbers are entered on our payment processor's secure form — we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Device and location data: GPS coordinates, speed, heading, ignition and motion events, geofence entries and exits, battery level and device health reported by your tracker.
  • App and site usage: device type, browser, IP address, pages viewed and referral source, collected through cookies and analytics.
  • Support communications: emails, chat transcripts and call notes.

How we use your information

  • Deliver core tracking features: live location, alerts, history and reports.
  • Process orders, activate service and provide warranty support.
  • Send transactional messages such as order, shipping and alert notifications.
  • Detect fraud, abuse and unauthorized access to accounts.
  • Improve product performance and reliability using aggregated, de-identified analytics.
  • Send marketing email only where permitted — and you can unsubscribe from any message.

Location data and lawful use

Location data belongs to the account owner. We access it only to operate the service, troubleshoot an issue you report, or when legally required. We do not sell location data, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks.

Your responsibility: you must own the asset you track or have the legal right and consent to track it. Laws about tracking vehicles used by employees, family members or other adults vary by state and country. Using a GPS Boss device to track a person without a lawful basis is prohibited by our terms.

When we share information

  • Service providers who process payments, ship orders, deliver cellular connectivity, host our infrastructure or send email — each bound by contract to use data only for those services.
  • Law enforcement where we receive a valid legal request, or where you ask us to assist a theft recovery.
  • Business transfers in a merger or acquisition, under the same protections described here.

Cookies and tracking technologies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and your cart intact, plus analytics and advertising cookies to understand how visitors find and use the site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; essential cookies are required for checkout and account access to work.

Data retention

  • Live and historical location data: retained for the life of the active plan, then deleted or de-identified.
  • Order and tax records: retained as required by law, typically seven years.
  • Support records: retained up to 24 months after resolution.
  • Closed accounts: personal data deleted within 90 days of a verified request.

How we protect your data

Traffic to our site and apps is encrypted in transit with TLS, checkout runs on a 256-bit secure connection, and stored data sits behind access controls limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we also recommend a strong, unique password and enabling every account security option we offer.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict processing of your personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. GPS Boss does not sell personal information.

To exercise a right, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days and never charge or penalize you for asking.

Children's privacy

Our products and site are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our products and the law evolve. Material changes are announced by email or an in-app notice, and the "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
